Looking for a hockey camp in Cornwall to sharpen your skills ahead of the new season? The Pre Season Hockey Training Camp at Truro School is designed for club hockey players who want to develop their game, build confidence and return to their teams ready to perform.

Led by experienced Truro School coaches Shona and Gordon, the camp provides high-quality pre-season coaching in a fun, supportive and challenging environment. Players will work on core technical skills, game awareness, decision-making and match-play scenarios, with personalised feedback to help them improve every aspect of their performance. Whether you’re looking to refine your fundamentals or take your game to the next level, this camp will help you start the season sharper, stronger and full of confidence.

Meet the Coaches

Shona

Experienced Truro School hockey coach dedicated to developing young players through positive, player-centred coaching.

Gordon Opie

Gordon brings more than 30 years of playing and coaching experience to our hockey camp, making him one of the South West’s most experienced and respected hockey coaches.

His playing career included National League hockey with Canterbury and ISCA, before spending seven successful seasons as Player-Coach at ISCA. He later went on to coach Bath Buccaneers in the National League, further strengthening his reputation for developing both individual players and high-performing teams.

Gordon is currently Director of Hockey at Truro Hockey Club, coaches at TA in Exeter, and leads the Cornwall U14 Girls programme. Alongside these roles, he has an outstanding track record in school hockey, having coached both the boys’ and girls’ 1st XI teams at Kingswood School for more than three decades.

Known for his passion, expertise and commitment to player development, Gordon has helped countless young athletes progress their skills, confidence and understanding of the game. His wealth of experience and enthusiasm make him an invaluable part of our hockey coaching team.

A healthy packed lunch
Snacks for the day

What to Expect

Arrival

Players should arrive at the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre for registration between 8:45am and 9:00am.

Collection

Children should be collected between 4:15pm and 4:30pm.

Throughout the day, participants will take part in structured hockey coaching sessions, skills training, tactical development and competitive match play. Every activity is delivered by experienced coaches who are passionate about helping young athletes develop their hockey ability while having fun.
