Half-Day Children’s & Teen Cookery Camp
Looking for a fun, practical and educational summer holiday activity in Cornwall? The Skills for Life Cookery Camp with Jane Hutton is a hands-on cookery course designed to help children and teenagers develop essential kitchen skills, build confidence, and learn how to prepare a variety of delicious meals from scratch.
Hosted at the Truro School Cookery School, this exciting summer holiday workshop introduces young chefs to a range of valuable culinary skills, including baking, cake decorating, meal preparation, breakfast dishes, healthy cooking techniques, and kitchen organisation.
Perfect for beginners and aspiring young cooks alike, this cookery camp focuses on developing practical skills that will last a lifetime.
What Will Young Chefs Learn?
Kitchen Skills, Hygiene and Safety
Cooking is about more than creating delicious food. Throughout the day, students will also learn important practical kitchen skills, including:
- Food hygiene and safe cooking practices
- Kitchen organisation and preparation
- Washing up and cleaning techniques
- Working safely and confidently in a professional kitchen environment
These valuable life skills help young chefs become more independent and confident in the kitchen.
About Jane Hutton
Jane Hutton is an NHS-commissioned, award-winning specialist in nutrition and everyday eating. A clinical nutritionist, nutritional therapist, chef, educator, food writer, consultant, author, and speaker, Jane is passionate about helping people stay healthy in busy modern lives.
Inspired by growing up cooking with home-grown produce, Jane developed a passion for culinary medicine and practical nutrition, leading to the creation of The Functional Food Cookery School. Her mission is to help people better understand their bodies and use food to support both physical and mental wellbeing.
Jane is also a qualified teacher and is known for making nutrition accessible and easy to understand, whether discussing hormone health, long-term wellbeing, or healthier approaches to everyday cooking.
Her work includes commissions and consultancy for the NHS, specialist clinics, charities, supplement companies, restaurants, and national media. She has also received a UK Enterprise Award for innovation in nutrition.

Recipes, teaching methods and activities will be adapted to suit each age group, ensuring all participants are appropriately challenged and supported throughout the session.
Cost
£36 per child, per half-day session
Families can choose to book individual workshops or enrol in all four sessions to give their young chef the full Skills for Life Cookery Camp experience.
Each workshop focuses on a different area of cooking, allowing children and teenagers to develop a broad range of practical kitchen skills throughout the summer holidays.
Refreshments
Children should bring:
- Snacks for the session
- A refillable water bottle
- Please note: No nuts
As many students enjoy taking their culinary creations home to share with family and friends, we recommend bringing a snack to enjoy during the session.
Arrival and Collection
Registration
All participants should register at the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre.

All collections take place from the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre.
If your child needs to leave early, please notify a member of staff during registration.
